A small mine for understanding cryptographic work. One private survey, 128 strata, three branches.

I. The workings

Choose copper, quartz or fossil, then begin sampling. Your browser requests a short-lived challenge and tests nonces using SHA-256. When it finds a qualifying hash, the server independently verifies the result, adds a specimen and advances your survey by one stratum. Branches change the specimen collection; none offers better odds.

Choose an expedition of one, three or five layers. Each specimen is verified and saved before the next challenge begins. Stop preserves completed layers; a proof already submitted finishes saving before the expedition ends. Survey objectives track your first specimen, all three minerals, layer 16 and three rich or exceptional specimens. Objectives do not grant extra credits or token rewards.

II. The proof

The exact input is UTF-8 text: velmorr|seed|depth|branch|nonce. A receipt retains the prefix and nonce. The hash must have at least the challenge target's number of leading zero bits. Expected trials are 2 raised to the target bits; an individual result may be much quicker or slower.

A challenge is tied to the private ledger and its revision, lasts 30 minutes and can advance its depth once. A stale challenge cannot be reused after a branch change, note or upgrade. The target starts at 10 bits, rises by one every 16 strata, capped at a five-bit increase, and falls by one per lens level, with an eight-bit minimum.

III. The grade

Zero or one extra zero bit gives TRACE and 2 specimen credits. Two to four gives RICH and 4 credits. Five or more gives EXCEPTIONAL and 8 credits. These are game records with no redemption or cash value. Specimen receipts are downloadable JSON and printable cards; they are not minted NFTs.

IV. The lens

Three lens upgrades cost 6, 12 and 18 credits. Each reduces the target by one bit, making the expected trial count half as large until the minimum target. The mine stops at 128 sampled strata. No payment can buy depth, credits or an upgrade.

V. Your ledger

A random browser-held access key selects your private server ledger. Anyone with that key can access it; save it privately through Ledger & backup. The server stores your progress and notes, and signs exports so edited backups cannot grant extra credits. This is not end-to-end encryption. Restoring a backup replaces the current ledger after confirmation.

VI. The limits

Computation begins only when you press Begin sampling, uses one worker and ends after 45 seconds or 500,000 trials. Stop or hiding the tab ends further computation. An already submitted proof may finish saving. A network failure ends the expedition; reload your ledger to check saved progress before starting again. Wallet connection is optional and separate from the ledger. Velmorr does not request financial transactions, pay dividends, distribute mining revenue or issue a token through this interface.
